Bluegrass BESS forms part of the Blue Grass Solar Farm on the Warrego Highway near Chinchilla, QLD. The project includes around 60 Narada battery energy storage containers providing renewable power to the Western Downs region. DIS Fire Systems delivered the full commissioning scope for the fire detection and hydrant network, developing ITPs, ITRs, and SAT documents for client handover.

The Challenge

Delivering comprehensive fire-commissioning documentation across a multi-stakeholder project.

With different battery vendors and site contractors operating under tight timeframes, a single validation process was needed to confirm system functionality. DIS Fire Systems produced bespoke FAT vs SAT reports and developed verification records that satisfied both Queensland regulators and the project owners. Testing covered four simultaneous hydrant flows and 432 kL tank storage in accordance with AS2419.

Clean Agent Suppression Technology

Our clean agent suppression systems eliminate fires quickly using residue-free, electrically non-conductive agents that protect valuable equipment without water damage.

Our Approach

System testing and regulatory verification

DIS Fire Systems coordinated end-to-end commissioning, including witness testing, FIP network verification and as-installed drawings. All records were digitally captured and issued through QA tracking software for traceability. Daily coordination meetings with construction and EPC teams ensured consistent progress and resolution of technical queries.

Regulatory & Standards Compliance

Compliant with AS ISO 14520 and NFPA 855 standards, ensuring all fire suppression systems meet rigorous safety, environmental, and operational requirements.

The Result

Validated and accepted fire system supporting solar farm & BESS operations

All commissioning records were accepted on first submission and the site achieved operational handover without non-conformance. DIS Fire Systems’ processes are now used as the model for subsequent energy-storage projects within the region.
